Happy New Year!

Now its time to look back on the last year, reflect on what went well, and make goals for the next year. Kristine and I drove across the county for Christmas, and it has given me a lot of time in the last couple of weeks to think about things. Last night the announcers on TV (while watching the ball drop in Times Square) had a poll on whether people thought this year would be better than last year. When I turned off the TV, it was something like 83% said 2008 would be better than 2007. I’m glad that people are optimistic, and I hope my 2008 will be better, but its not going to be easy. The main thing that happened this year, having my first child, is going to be hard to beat this next year, but there are some good things in the future!

This winter semester is my last semester of college at BYU, and I will be graduation in April. I will be starting a “real” job. And we will probably move somewhere new. All of those things are exciting, and I look forward to each of them! Kristine and I talked last night as we drove about goals for 2008. We decided to set some financial goals, and family goals, and I’ve set some personal goals.

Financial Goals:
1. After this last batch of student loans we have about $20,000 in debt with those and the car payments. We have decided that since we don’t have to pay the student loans until November, we will save the money we would have paid to them in our account so that we can pay a large lump at the start to decrease the interest we will have to pay.

2. Because we have a good rate on the car loan, we are going to pay only a little extra on the car payment so that we can pay it off sooner.

3. Start an emergency fund – have 3 months worth by 2009.

Family Goals:
1. Family Home Evening each week.
2. Morning/Night Family Prayer
3. Daily Scripture Study

Personal Goals:
1. Blog Daily
2. Exercise Daily
3. Read Scriptures Daily

I personally am not sure about having so many goals to keep track of. At least I have made them measurable. I plan on tracking most of them using a calendar and marking off the dates. An example calendar can be seen from this post on my exercise plan. The important thing is, set a goal, and work to achieving it. If its something you are trying to make it a habit – focus on it, and it will become something you just do.
