Isn’t it funny how over time different people and things interest you in a different way? For a long time I read Zen Habits each time a new post came out. Then I found that Leo and I were at different stages of life. He moved more into a minimalist phase and I was still in the getting productive phase. Over time I let his feed go unread in my reader until I decided to remove it completely. Then a few months back I read an article which lead me back to reading him again. We’ve gone full circle and now much of what he writes seems to pertain to my life. (Did I change or did he?…) Anyway, I recently did some work task “housekeeping” (inbox zero was a part of that), and then I read this post. I need to do more and going through Leo’s list helped me to think of some things I should put on my shortlist to get done. Here is what Leo had to say:
Imagine your house was messy (hard to picture, I know), because you kept putting off little things like putting away your clothes, washing your dishes, throwing things away, putting things where they belong, sorting through your mail. You’re too busy.
Then imagine you took a day to clean everything, put everything where it belonged. Your house is immaculate, and you’re incredibly relieved, because it was all weighing on you mentally.
That’s what I did for my work tasks. I cleaned house.
