So today when I logged into gmail I noticed something – for one thing it didn’t just say “Loading…” it said “Loading XXXXX@gmail.com…” – AND it loaded faster – or seemed to. I thought well maybe it was just a figment of my imagination because I was reading the loading thing and didn’t notice the time (It really did make me feel good to see my email address there on the screen… Kinda like hey! That’s me!) Well to test it again, I logged out and logged back in with another email address… Sure enough if seemed to load faster! So I headed over to the latest post at the gmail official blog and this is what I found! A need for speed: the path to a faster loading sequence. Well sure enough it is faster! If you don’t believe me, log in and find out! (and don’t forget to notice your email identity there on the screen while it loads! You will have to be quick, because it doesn’t stay there too long.) And although they weren’t sure people would notice or care, I noticed… I hope that makes you Google programmers a little happier. Your work does have meaning. Thanks for caring about even a few seconds of my time.

Why has my gmail suddenly become slower and slower to load? It is now to the point that message pops up and states that since it is taking so long I should try loading via html.
I have cable and supposedly the fast download speed available. What has happened?

I have had the same experience as Robert Monson. I am now often unable to use Gmail in Firefox (my preference) without switching to html. In either case (Firefox via html or Windows) I don’t get some of the functionality I’ve grown to depend on, e.g. color labels.
Is there a fix for this problem?

Gmail today is the slowest it has EVER been for me. What have you guys done? Whatever the changes are – they have made it MUCH slower for some of us.

Off late the loading is a big hassle…in Mozilla firefox…..and this happens for a couple of hours …I guess they are testing something

Having said that…using IE everything seems to be fine….
Also these days I do have issues accessing gmail using my Sony Ericcsson P990i gmail application -
I read the post after a few weeks of Gmails new loading feature. I do not believe it loads faster. I actually see it loading slower than before. I see no improvements on this new update. Maybe for others they notice it but i don’t notice it. Before it would load right away but now it slows down by 5 seconds longer than before.

Unfortunately I’m one of those who is experiencing significant delays in the loading process, where previously my gmail account was accessible in a matter of seconds. Now, it’s wait ……… and wait ……… and wait …… basically like it took a web page to load in 1995.

Those of you who use firefox should be used to it being slower than IE. Use the new BETA and you’ll see the changes.

Safari user, and it IS faster, or at least I can make the CHOICE to switch to HTML faster, and I appreciate that, I DO have a slow connection and when I’m in a rush having the option to choose to load the HTML version without having to wait a long time, is nice, I just see how fast its loading and if i don’t have that kind of time to wait, I can view in HTML and go. It might not be perfect but it works for me!

I was having troubles loading my gmail with firefox, but after I deleted all my spam through IE, I’m back on firefox with fast load times.

Sorry, but deleting my spam box was only a temporary fix, I’m still having troubles using firefox

Gmail does load faster now and I am using Firefox 2.0.0.14
How much faster? It is significant enough for me to notice.
I used to have the same problems that some of you described above… taking longer than usual… switch to html etc…
now it’s gone. I love gmail :))))

Firefox 3.05b user, Gmail loads INCREDIBLY fast on a very slow dial-up connection that I’ve been using temporarily for a week now.
To be able to load faster on Firefox I’d recommend all FF users to upgrade to 3 beta or RC1 for a better and enhanced java script engine performance.

That is WILD that some of you get faster load times with IE. I love Firefox and always have a much faster load time with Firefox. Firefox loads most pages faster than IE, unless it is an IE-specific page. And yes, I also have had trouble with the Gmail load times. I DO love the faster load time. I’ve wondered it the slow load time could be related to how many emails I have saved?
