My job has shifted over the last 6 months to doing more data analytics inside of our Sales Operations team. I actually love being able to drill down and find out what is going on, and bubble up that important information to the top. Sometimes though, building out the framework and the process can take a long time, and you need simple solutions just to get started. For instance, I have an email that is sent to me each time an opportunity’s expected close date changes. At first this was a short term solution, but it has proved invaluable a number of times when my boss has asked what moved in or out of the pipeline and rather than have to pull an bunch of reports and compare data I can just say “Oh, so and so pushed this out.”
Sometimes, having some data, even if it isn’t awesome and automated is a good start. Get started collecting and then add intelligence and automation to your system.
